CONGRATULATIONS to WABSE’s own Erin Jones, Director of Equity and Achievement, in Federal Way School District. On February 26, 2013 Erin was honored at the White House by Secretary of Education, Arnie Duncan, as one of the nation's 10 Champions of Change for the Educational Excellence for African American students. She is recognized an "ordinary American who has devoted their time and efforts to improve educational outcomes for African American students". This event was a vital part of the White House Black History Month celebration. Erin embodies the spirit of this new White House Initiative. She is committed and passionate about her goal in Closing Gaps in opportunity and expectation, "The system - public education and American culture, in general - has created".
